Internet Ads Help

Remember to keep your ad text simple and consise. If your click thru ratio is low this page will attempt to assist you in improving your response and making sales.

There are 3 elements to each ad:

The Display URL: Make sure this is only the root domain and that your domain name is short. Do not post the entire url such as:
http://mysite.com/products/shampoo/sales/dogshampoo25.html.

The display url should simply be: MySite.com

The Ad Text: Since you have complete control of the ad text you can say exactly what you want to. But writing ads is an art that profesionals make loads of money doing. So there are some common guidlines to follow.

  • include the price if the price is a draw

  • don't offer FREE anything. Its overdone and most people don't believe its true.

  • DO NOT USE ALL CAPITAL LETTERS! its annoying and less effective.

  • do not make unreasonable claims, such as the largest retailer on the east coast, when you only have 10 products in your shopping cart.

  • Once the buyer sees your site, they will know how much effort you put into it. If the ad is unrepresentitive of the site, you will loose the interest of the buyer.

  • Ads do work, but the inetrnet is full of window shoppers, so converting a click to a sale is hard and the ratio will be low. Monitor the success rate of the ad and find a campaign that has the highest success rate.

The Send To Page: Remember, getting the surfer to click the ad is only part of the battle. Make sure the ad the user clicked on tkes them to a relavent page.

If your ad reads that you offer a discount on a specific product, make sure they are sent directly to the product page. Surfers that are sent to your main page and have to look hard to find the product will likely leave before they find it.

Make your page simple and easy to use. Surfers normally spend only seconds on a page. Having a page with any more than exactly what the customer is looking for will confuse the potential buyer and likely cost you a sale.

If the surfer has clicked on an ad for "Dog Shampoo for $1.95" then when the page loads, a clear and well placed "Buy Now" or "Add To Cart" link should be predominant in the page. The user is already interested enough to go to the page, don't try to sell them on the product, just sell it to them.
